I know my Little Dove does not sleep as she should, but I am at least calmed by the fact that she is safely by my side, even if I can tell she is teetering on the edge of a meltdown with every second she can not be completely assured of Jamesâ safety. I am glad that she could feel his life through the bond she has with his soul, as it was just a suspicion I had was possible, not something I was assured of. I assumed her bond to the princes whoâs souls sheâs bonded to her own was similar to that of a sirebond, a bond that I know can be felt if searched for, no matter how far apart the sire is from their turned. It is a bond that you can feel being painfully broken and shattered if the turned or sire dies. A pain I do not wish to ever have Victoria suffer, as it is unimaginably painful when the soul that is lost is one you love with all your heart, as I know she loves her princes.
I focus on the road ahead, driving away from the estate of Princess Edith to try to put as much distance as possible between her and my queen. Anne, Lucia, and I had reservations at a hotel ten minutes from the estate, but those will no longer be of use to us. I will find us another hotel to stay at for the day. Hopefully, I can find somewhere nice and safe, even though we will be without a reservation.
About twenty minutes down the road, I begin to feel wary, as the same car has been following us for at least ten minutes. Even as I begin making a series of strange turns to see if they will leave, they continue to pursue. I grip the steering wheel tightly in my hands. It looks like weâre going to have a fight on our hands. I donât relish the idea of having Victoria see me in battle, but I fear it may not be able to be avoided.
âWe are being followed, Victoria.â I say softly, and I see her tense and sit up straighter in the seat, gripping the seatbelt in a fist at her chest. âWeâre going to have to find a place to fight them, and I fear that death may be the only way to end this pursuit.â She takes a deep, unsteady breath at my words. She is such a gentle soul, and it pains me to think that she will be forced to watch as I eliminate the threat to her life.
âAlright,â She nods, and then in an odd movement I see her reaching up under her skirt. I canât seem to stop myself from fully looking over at what she is doing as we come to a stop at an intersection. I find my eyes widening in surprise as she pulls two stakes out from a leather strap fastened around her beautiful creamy thigh.
